BK aims at blowing people…away?

Once again Burger King is making news, headliners and getting a lot of free publicity (you are welcome BK) with their new “It’ll BLOW your mind away” campaign that features the BK Super Seven Incher meal. Crispin Porter Bogusky (CPB) Advertising, the brains behind this campaign, have gotten people talking, blogging, tweating and are turning a lot attention to their client BK. However, some are calling it vulgar, plain nasty and some, very few, are calling it quite clever.

Whichever way you decide to look at it, BK is once again, making headlines. Bloggers are writing about it, Tweaters are tweatin’ and BK competitors are left thinking what they need to combat all this social media burst BK is getting. “I like square butts…” was not enough I guess.

From a kid-friendly point of view, this is really not something kids should be exposed to. Yes, they will be exposed to these sort of things on the internet, at school and just about everywhere else, but, timing is of the essence here. Kids are flocking to the BK locations to get their hands on the hot Transformer toys. With increase of family and kids traffic, I think parents will have a lot of explaining to do to their young ones as teenagers and young adults crack all sorts of jokes inside the restaurants about this campaign. I am glad I do not take my cat out to eat as I know he would bombard me with questions.

Burger King fired back claiming that the campaign was ONLY ran in Singapore and in no additional markets. Further, they specified that CPB advertising was not responsible for the print ad, but that a local ad agency in Singapore created it (they would not however, provide the name to said agency.

Sales did pick up as a direct result of the campaign.
